Posting bail here
Call (800) 351-8911 with the person's name, the jail, the charge and the bail amount if it is listed. We confirm the booking, take the cosigner's application, and post the bond with the jail. The jail then processes the release, and timing depends on how busy it is that day.
Prefer to start on paper? Apply for bail online and an agent will call you back. If the bail feels out of reach, ask about Bail Today, Pay Later® monthly payments and the 20% discount for veterans and for people with a private attorney.
Find the person
Search the OCSD Inmate Information System with their full legal name and date of birth. Write down the booking number. You will need it for bail, visits, mail and money. New bookings can take a few hours to show up online. Our inmate lookup guide has tips when a search comes up empty.
Visiting
- OCSD says public visiting at the Central Men's and Women's Jails is available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Check OCSD's visiting page for current times.
What families should know
The Orange County Sheriff's Department runs the Central Men's and Women's Jails and the Intake Release Center in the civic center in Santa Ana. OCSD says bail bonds are accepted at the Intake Release Center 24 hours a day.
If you post cash bail yourself, OCSD accepts cash, verified bank cashier's checks, money orders, traveler's checks and some personal checks at the jail cashier. Personal checks must be drawn on a California bank, match the issuer's California ID and are capped at $7,500 per checking account. Bail for courts outside Orange County must be paid in cash. Call OCSD Inmate Records to confirm the exact amount first.
The Central Men's Jail also holds CJ1, a courtroom inside the secure area used for arraignments.
